God's Holy Trousers - The Monkey of the Inkpot (2009)

1. Trousersound (Morrid, Mokshaman - 3m 48s)

Readers searching the OED for the definition of Trousersound will be sadly disappointed. Indeed, its inclusion in the 1974 edition (and removal in a corrected version two months later) can be attributed to the error of an unfortunate sub-editor, who had inadvertently licked a cane toad and fallen foul of amusing (yet sadly fatal) delusions.

Mokshaman - Vocals
Morrid - Drums, Bass, Guitar, Keyboards
Mountjoy - Bass, Mellotron
Maternik - Cello

2. Azzazello's Cream (Mountjoy - 4m 43s)

Fans of Bulgakov will doubtless recognise the diabolical unguent given to Margarita by Professor Woland’s be-fanged henchman that turns her into a witch. However, they will also likely be unaware that Trouserlabs, the pharmaceutical arm of the Trousers conglomerate, has been developing a generic equivalent. This will soon be available, without prescription, at all disreputable chemists, and is currently being tested on Victoria Beckham and Cherie Blair.

Mountjoy - Guitars, Bass, Keyboards
Morrid - Drums

3. Lordy Lordy (Morrid, Mokshaman, Mountjoy - 4m 43s)

We have all, at some time, been struck to the gutties and utterly befuddled by the vicissitudes of life. The Mokshaman’s great uncle Silas, for instance, walks into walls or slaps his head with a stale piece of toast whenever the gods of chance are at their most merciless. For the Trousers, the above exclamation is never far behind the unexpected. Oddly, many others have reacted in similar fashion when listening to this track, most of all those strapped naked to a cactus.

Mokshaman - Vocals
Morrid - Drums, Bass, Guitar, Swarsangum, Keyboards
Mountjoy - Guitar

4. Nemo (Mountjoy - 3m 29s)

Aboard Captain Nemo’s Nautilus, in the 1954 Walt Disney film adaptation of Jules Verne’s novel, Kirk Douglas fashions a ukulele from a turtle shell. It is a little-known fact that this was made by Mountjoy, pioneer of underwater luthiery (see biography), and that it he still uses it often when out yodeling in the rain. Can you guess the sections in this track in which he uses it? Send us your answers and you could win a prize - your first friend.

Mountjoy - Guitars, Bass, Keyboards
Morrid - Drums

5. Stuff N Ting (Morrid, Mokshaman - 3m 51s)

This song is dedicated to the final album by ska demi-legend Roy ‘The Portuguese Poet’ Fitzroy, who died recently after a long battle with dandruff. We will miss his contribution to music, and salute his stamina and courage in enduring over 30 years in prison. We try to embody the joy in Fitzroy’s music here, although we have attempted to tune our instruments more conventionally. It is for you to decide whether or not we have succeeded.

Mokshaman - Vocals
Morrid - Guitar, Keyboard, Bass and Drums
Maternik - Cello
Rita - Backing Vocals
Mountjoy - Facetious vocal interjection

6. Atticus Grammaticus (Morrid - 4m 34s)

Lacking the powers of concentration to produce a complete concept album, the Trousers wisely decided to limit their ambitions to the production of a single concept track. This task was assigned to Morrid, who assures us that Atticus Grammaticus is the successful outcome, whilst refusing to divulge what the concept is (though apparently it is written on the side of a grain of rice, which he can't currently locate amongst all his other grains of rice).

Morrid - All Instruments

7. Fatty Zero (Mountjoy - 4m 29s)

As relief from the ardours of writing Finnegan's Wake, James Joyce indulged in regular drinking binges at a variety of Parisian cafés, whilst filling notebooks with bizarre and often hilarious limericks. Maternik's great-uncle, possessing one such notebook, has kindly permitted us to present a fine example, delivered through the medium of International Jazz Fusion.

Mountjoy - Guitars, Bass, Keyboards
Maternik - Cello
Morrid - Drums

8. I'm Sorry But I Don't Agree (Mountjoy, Mokshaman - 4m 10s)

We would like to register, in uncompromising, vituperative and opprobrious terms, our resolute and adamantine opposition. At no time have we ever conceded a single point hitherto raised, and can state with total finality that we never will. You are wrong, and we are sorry, but we do not agree.

Mokshaman - Vocals
Mountjoy - Guitars, Bass, Keyboards
Morrid - Guitars, Drums

9. Time To Go (Mountjoy - 3m 51s)

Good lord. Is that the time?

Mountjoy - Guitars, Bass, Keyboards
Morrid - Drums

10. Spider Cloud (Mountjoy - 5m 23s)

The Trousers were intrigued to hear reports of a series of ecstatic visions experienced by a young lebanese girl, one of which involved a Spider Cloud ascending from a rose bush. The Vatican is currently deliberating as to whether beatification or exorcism is the appropriate course of action.

Mountjoy - Guitars, Keyboards
Morrid - Bass, Drums, Guitar, Keyboards
